About Red Canyon Mustang Tour 8:30am.

Book Direct with the Owner at Red Canyon Mustang Tour 8:30am. with Accommodation Los Angeles in Cody, for all your Attraction and travel needs.

This tour like being on safari. We never know what we are going to see,but always hope to see the wild mustangs. This tour begins at 8:30 am and we ask you to meet at our shop at 1119 12th street 15 minutes prior to your tour.No matter what you see or do out there,it’s always fun and educational.Youll be traveling in either a 4 wheel drive vehicle,Hummer, van,or sometimes a bus.We do try to keep our tours small and more intimate so the buses are mainly for the big bus tours.During the tour you’ll givin interesting information about the history of our wild mustang herd as well as their fight to survive in the future. These amazing animals have become a part of American history for many years, and they need to have their story told.

The guide was not very knowledgeable about the horses. He had to change a tire on the vehicle while we were Viewing the horses. Hey crowded too many people into the Van. There were enough seatbelts but 3 of the ladies were overweight so it was crowded.

Just the facts- Tour was to start at 8:30. I called company at 8:30 as building was locked and unattended. I was informed tours were now beginning later at 9:00 and that not everyone had been called to update plan. The land the horses are on are open to the public. The herd was visible from the highway, just had to pull into the land management drive. Private vehicles can take any road in the managed area, commercial vehicles (ie tour) cannot and are bound to certain ones. Tour vehicle was a regular old Ford passenger van...without working a/c. There are signs that tell you how close you can get to horses. The roads in the management area did have some bigger ruts, there are cacti, and we were told rattlesnakes. My opinion- If you have any sort of vehicle with some clearance and mild sense of adventure, take yourself and save a boatload of money. You’ll probably even have a/c. If you enjoy a little info from the guide, have a car, or just don’t feel like driving yourself then this might be enjoyable for you. Either way, the horses were fun to watch and worth the trip out of Cody.

We were looking forward to viewing the wild mustangs. Unfortunately, our guide never showed up and didn’t call us to explain why. Very disappointing.

Jared was a terrific guide - knowledgeable about the horses and the habitat. What a thrill to see the horses in the wild and the beautiful topography of the area.

This is a must do. My family and I enjoyed this tour very much. Besides seeing the wild mustangs we saw a bunch of antelope. My two daughters and my wife won’t stop talking about it. We recommend

Jarrod was our guide and he was excellent. He was very informative and knowledgeable about horses and their behavior. He also told us the names of various horse and the history of the region. He pointed out different mountains and their names and history also. We were a family group of 13 (all ages) and everyone of us were thrilled to see the horses--we counted 35 in one herd and 5-6 in a batchelor pod. It was a lifetime (bucket list) wish fulfilled. Thankyou so, so much Jarrod.

We had a great guide! She clearly loves to find and see the wild horses. She was very informative and incredibly patient with children. She was easy and fun to talk to. We did see sizable a herd and some bachelor mustangs. Unfortunately they were pretty far away, not easy to find and were moving pretty quickly. She found them though! We were very glad that they provided pretty descent binoculars to use. We also saw some pronghorns out there. It was a bumpy, ride but it's a Wyoming wild mustang "safari", expected. Not too dusty with light rain that did not bother our group. The only reason we gave 4 instead of 5 was because half of the back seat of the van was very wet from an earlier rafting trip, but the van was not full so, we could avoid it by sitting close together.

I'd say skip the paid tour and go yourself for free--it's BLM land and you can go more places on the dirt roads than they can with their commercial van. I found the experience frustrating--van was very dirty inside, guide didn't know where the herd was (which it seems they should if they go every day) and they had several vans that went different directions, with no way to communicate if one of them saw the herd. I suggested walkie-talkies since cell service is awful around that area. We saw one lone horse.

The man at the check-in could not have been more rude and disrespectful when we arrived at 5:30(per the confirmation) only to find that the van had left us and he said we should have arrived at 5:15. When I asked him to show me where on our confirmation it said to arrive at 5:15, he just said, “it’s there” although I scoured the confirmation, it only said 5:30, and he continued to respond rudely and aggressively toward me. I gave this two stars because the van did return for us, and the guide was nice and knowledgeable. However, don’t expect to see tons of wild horses. We saw four fairly close, drove around on extremely rough roads for an hour looking for the herd, which was so far away we could barely see with binoculars. They were unable to travel down many of the roads claiming BLM wouldn’t permit it. But it’s public land, so not sure why. And being public lands, you can google and find exactly where to do this trip on your own. They even have signage at the road for you. Not worth the money, in my opinion. The entire trip was no more than two hours door to door, not the three indicated. And definitely because of how we were treated I wouldn’t recommend. If you book, make sure to arrive 15min earlier than your confirmation states!

The tour we booked was scheduled for 8:30-11:30 AM. Upon our arrival and during the long wait, we were told on 3 different occasions that our driver should be there in approximately 5 minutes. However, after waiting for 30 minutes, our driver finally arrived. Our female driver, who did seem very friendly, then rushed us to an old van that was filthy inside and out and smelled like a wet dog. We did luck up and get to see a band of mustangs. Even though we were 30 minutes late leaving for the tour, we did not get to stay an extra 30 minutes to compensate for her tardiness. We feel like this tour is overpriced for what our family experienced.
