All staff we can't in contact with were gracious and very informative on the history of Smith Tower. The elevator attendant was great at explaining the engineering and our server was great in letting us know about the decor of the space. Loved this visit!
While visiting town I visited the Smith Tower. I waited 30 mins for the next table to be available. Security guys were polite and helpful. I paid $14 to go up to the 35th floor where the restaurant and the observatory deck are. Food is good, Drinks are fancy, tasty and very pricey. I ended up paying $60 for their “Chinese Room Soba Noodle” Salad and Two drinks, I guess you’re paying for the view and the Fancy drinks. The 360° view of Seattle is beautiful at Sunset!! You can stay up as long as you want, I did felt that I was being rushed to leave by my server, I was planning on having more drinks but she brought me my check as soon as I finished my noodles lol. It’s definitely of cool place to check out if you’re visiting Seattle, or just for a romantic date.
Fabulous viewpoint in Seattle - you get downtown skyline (N), Puget Sound and Olympic Mtns (W), Mt Rainier (S), and Cascades Mtns (E), with lot's in between to enjoy from the 360 viewing terrace. Go at happy hour when you can get a big discount on the entry fee, then spend that extra cash on fun cocktails and nibbles in the dark bar with carved ceilings. Definitely take a few minutes to see the artifacts around the bar entrance for a little historical fun. You can even get an extra 5% off your bill if you follow the directions on the museum pamphlets spotlighting actual people from the Smith Tower's early days. Great place for romantic drinks or beers before the football game, and go back more than once - the ever changing skyline means you might get a different view each time...
My wife was born and raised in Seattle and had never been in Smith Tower, so she asked me to take her here for her birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed the architecture and the antique appointments to the interior. The beautiful old elevators were amazing! Smith Tower was at one time the tallest building west of the Mississippi. We took advantage of the weekday happy hour promotion: $12 tickets to ride the elevator to the 35th floor observatory, 4-6 p.m. Mon-Thurs. Once there, you walk outside for stunning views in all directions, then come back inside to the bar for happy hour food and drink ($9 select small plates and select drinks). We had a couple of drinks and the Pork Char Sui plate. Both the drinks and the Chinese style sliced barbecued pork were quite ordinary. For dinner we both ordered their Chili Prawns ($21.00 ea.). The prawns were perfectly cooked, but the sauce was overwhelmingly sweet, due to the use of too much Thai sweet chili chicken sauce. Even the rice over which it was served couldn't soak up that much sugar. Service was excellent! Only wish I had gotten our male server's name. The interior of the building with brass and marble, the amazing elevators and the outstanding views from the top were what made our visit. Next time, we'd likely skip the food. They could do so much better with an improved menu. Plus I feel I should mention that for our first hour at the top, it was very loud and noisy due to a private party. Period dress from the early 1900's for the building staff would be a nice touch. And please...hire some ticket takers at ground level who look and act like they're enjoying their jobs!
What a wonderful place! We definitely made the right decision, choosing to see the Seattle skyline from the Smith Tower Observatory. And to eat in the bar / restaurant - possibly the best food we had during our entire stay - and a lovely person serving us . Many thanks for a great visit.
For the price, I would recommend Smith Observatory over the Space Needle! We decided to go after 9 pm for reduced rate but mainly to see the city at night given that we had already been on the Great Wheel and saw the city during the day. It is definitely worth visiting when in Seattle.
One of the best views of Seattle on a clear day. We had no wait to get to the top. We were able to walk around the observatory to see 360 degree views. Had a drink with the best view of the water and sunset and had a meal that was surprisingly good for a place that you would think the views would be the main attraction. Unique environment, atmospheric music, interesting drinks and a few good food choices. Definitely a place to visit when in Seattle.
