We were very disappointed by the lack of communication from the organizer. I booked the Tijuana cultural walking tour for our family, but no one ever arrived at the meeting place. I had received confirmation and tickets, and even a reminder text the day before. Later found out they’re no longer running this walking tour because of Covid and the unpredictability of length of time getting back across the border. So we improvised. It would’ve been great having insider commentary, but we spent a full day exploring on our own. We most enjoyed the vibrant local scene on Avenue Constitucion with its side street markets that specialize in things like spices, fabric, candles, anime and more. Everyone wears masks here, both inside and out, and shop and restaurant owners are strict about enforcing it. Plan for some time getting across the border on your return to the US. The wait time is unpredictable but the process is organized. We got into line at 4:30 PM on a Tuesday, and it took an hour and a half. Not too bad. We heard it could vary from 30 minutes to three hours. There were a couple pay toilets along the way. Look for the griddle cake vendor at the side of the line. Tasty and filling, thick like a Korean pancake.

A very fun, affordable introduction to Tijuana. Our guide Sylvia is a local, fully bi-lingual, and very knowledgeable of the area. I had a great time!

Fernando was an excellent guide. He met us on time, and we came back later than stated due to transportation waits. I'd say bring a little extra money and eat good before you go as there is not a lot of time to eat if you want to shop, unless you are grabbing a street vendor type snack. But he was knowledgeable on the history of Mexico and Tijuana, so you will learn things!! Which I love! Was a great experience! We are from Nebraska, so culturally, economically, environmentally, we are so different, and we love learning about everyone everywhere! Thanks Fernando!

The tour was excellent. Meeting the guide was difficult. Description of meeting place needs to be much more clear. Example meet at McDonalds with the address and across from trolley / Railway station. All in all I highly recommend this tour

We would give this tour more stars if it were possible. Martha was delightful and full of information. We felt very safe and enjoyed the out of the way places she had planned for us. Our favorite was the “Spice Market” which featured spices and foods of all kinds. Martha led us down an out of the way alley were we were found the best Mexican food in a tiny cafe run by a mom and two lovely daughters. Not having to be concerned about using public transport or figuring out the currency, made the day stress free. Don’t miss this great opportunity.

Best day trip we have ever done! Martha was a wonderful tour guide! It rained so thought she may need to cancel but she didn’t. My husband and I were the only people touring so we had her all to ourselves. Martha showed us all over the city; taking us to the Coast and Friendship Park; downtown to the markets; to the History Museum; the Cultural Center and more. She was very knowledgeable, teaching us about past history as well as cultural changes that are affecting Tijuana today. We were surprised to learn of the educational system; and the ever changing role of women in past and current Tijuana. I would recommend this tour for everyone interested in traveling to Mexico. She let us set the pace; answered all of our questions and was overall the best guide we’ve ever had.

Lots of people are reluctant to see Tijuana because, admittedly when you're there you're "not in Kansas, anymore." Don't miss the opportunity. This was a great tour given by a knowledgeable resident. There were only the five of us from my family that signed up for the Cultural Tour on the day we picked, but Sylvia went out of her way to customize for what we were interested in. She had set locations she wanted to get to in the time we had, but will point out things that we were interested in and answered any questions we had about the places we saw and the TJ in general. Sylvia coached us on the different taxi systems. TJ also has a municipal bus service, but getting around in the van taxis was quicker and a good way to learn Tijuana and the people who live there (and the drivers who drive). I won't detail the whole trip, but in the short day we had we saw ancient, old, and modern TJ and Mexico. We talked about the border, new and old walls and how things have changed for the families that live, work, and study on both sides. We visited markets and ate good food; saw churches (sadly no festivals while there). Saw how there is a new generation trying to lift of the city. And we walked and crossed the streets of Tijuana from the border crossing at San Ysidro to the beach. The recommended amount of money for traveling and purchases was US$20, but I'd up it to US$25 or 30. Remember that anything you buy you have to carry, but there are good values and tasty treats you won't want to miss. We'd do it again when we are near.

Fernando was a very knowledgeable guide who shared some nice facts about the history of tijuana and mexico. Very nice food, enough drinks including a laid back atmosphere. Cool to go to a bit more local places by foot and with public transport.
